What can you expect if you are facing a DWI charge?

Under New Jersey Law, if this is your first offense, you could be facing fines of up to $500, 30 days in jail, loss of your license for up to a year or until an ignition interlock (breathalyzer) is installed, insurance surcharges up to $1,000 per year for three years, and potentially the use of an ignition interlock for a year a more.  

For a second offense you can expect your fines to double, up to 3 months in jail, loss of your license for up to two years, 30 days of community service, and a ignition interlock to start your vehicle for 3 years. 

A third offense, or any subsequent offense, can result in 6 months of jail and/or a rehabilitation facility and 8 years without a license, not to mention an exorbitant number of fines.
